ANTI BULLYING

FAMILY MARTIAL ARTS

WE ARE HERE TO HELP YOU – We don’t just show you how to “KICK”, “PUNCH” and “BLOCK”. We teach you techniques that may help you “PROTECT YOURSELF, YOUR     FAMILY and YOUR FRIENDS”.

Use your skills WISELY. YOU MUST NEVER use them to bully someone else!

ANTI – BULLYING

  •  Bullies are in every school and every street, in every country of the world. They may make up stories to get people into trouble. They often pick on people who are different in some way; calling them names, spreading rumours, hitting or spitting.
  • Bullies can also steal things from their victims, take lunch money or damage belongings. They may try to make victims feel alone and try to turn their friends against them.
  • Many bullies don’t like themselves and so take it out on someone else. Some bullies have family problems at home. Perhaps they are bullied themselves, by a family member or other adults.
  •  They may be scared of getting picked on, so they do it first, or they want to be tough and show off in front of their mates.
  • Ignoring bullies often works. They just love a reaction, so if you don’t reward them with one, they might give up trying to annoy you. Walking away, asking them to repeat what they said, or making a joke out of it, are other ways that some people have found to deal with bullies.
  • Taking another route home, or avoiding dangerous situations can also help.
  • If you are getting physically hurt, hitting back is not the answer. It might work sometimes, but violence often leads to more violence, and you could end up being the one in trouble.
  • Being picked on is very common and it can be really scary if you are a victim, but you can get help. You don’t have to suffer in silence. TELL SOMEONE.
  • To combat long term bullying, you must pluck up the courage to tell an adult who can help you. It’s too big a problem to carry on your own, and bullies rely on the fact that you will be too scared to tell anyone.
  • Once you have spoken to a teacher or a parent, the bully loses their power over you and things won’t seem as bad.
  • If you are scared to say it all out loud, write it all down in a letter or ask a good friend to stay behind after school or during a break to back you up you when you talk to your teacher.
  • Keep a diary of exactly what has happened. This can prove very useful if you report the bullying.
  • Most schools are wised up about bullies nowadays and your school should already have a policy in place to help you. If not, they can contact ChildLine for advice.
  • Never feel tempted to skip school because of bullies. It takes courage to face up to an upsetting situation, but it’s often the quickest way to get things sorted. Besides, you are too important to miss out on school because of bullying.
  • If you see a friend being bullied, you can help by supporting them. Don’t be tempted to join in the bullying, but be prepared to go to a teacher with your friend. You could also help them to call ChildLine.

Tell YOUR FAMILY

If you are scared to tell a teacher/adult on your own, ASK A FRIEND TO GO WITH YOU

You MUST KEEP ON SPEAKING until someone LISTENS and does SOMETHING TO          STOP THE BULLYING !

If your school has a PEER SUPPORT SERVICE, then USE IT

DO NOT  BLAME YOURSELF for what has happened

WHEN YOU ARE TALKING TO AN ADULT ABOUT BULLYING
