Taekwondo at Family Martial Arts – Part Two

Taekwondo taught at the Family Martial Arts schools use the ITF, International Taekwondo federation set of Patterns as our core and combine sparring drills and line work patterns to help students learn their way through the patterns. A big part of our Taekwondo is the self defence aspect which we take from the pattern techniques and apply applications using Pressure Points of the human body as taught through the use of Kyusho-Jitsu which is also taught at the schools within the syllabus. Pad work using boxing and kicking drills make for a good work out with a partner or on our free standing bags, and of course general coordination and conditioning exercises.

Taekwondo has a philosophical way to its patterns with each one referring to a person or historical instance in Korean history. The students learn the meaning of their pattern and what their belt colour signifies as well as our use of life skill words and attitudes to develop a positive view on their personnel journey into Taekwondo and their life.

Tae Kwon Do students use the principles of

Courtesy, Integrity, Perseverance, Self-Control and Indomitable Spirit.
